What do I need to start making lenticular pictures?
The first question that most of beginners ask me is "What do I need to start making lenticular pictures?" That is the reason why I decided to start my "Lenticular Technology Tips and Tricks" newsletter answering on this question.
I am going to share with you all information about what you must have and good to have and where you can take it for the best price.
Must have:
- Computer with Windows Operating System. You can use almost any computer does not matter AMD or Pentium. I would recommend you to have at least 512 Mb RAM. If you will have 1 Gb RAM it will give you a big advantage.
-
Ink jet photo printer. Now ink jet printers greatly improved the quality of printing.
That is the reason why it is possible to use lenticular technology for making high quality
lenticular pictures even at home. You can use any photo printers that you already have. But
if you are thinking now what printer to buy I would recommend you to pay attention to the new
Epson printers with Epson UltraChrome™ Hi-Gloss pigment individual inks long lasting up to
100 years.

"PhotoProjector Easy" software for amateurs.
Resulting file size limitation is 30 cm width and/or height, maximal print resolution is 1200 dpi.
The software can be used for ink jet printing.

"PhotoProjector" is an interlacing software for serious amateurs and some companies.
Resulting file size limitation is about 20,000 x 20,000 pixels with any resolution. Approximately
the biggest interlaced file could be 130 x 130 centimeters with resolution of file 400 dpi. The
software can be used for ink jet and offset printing.

We have three types of "PhotoProjector" interlacing software. There are:
- Photo editing software. I have been using for a long time Ulead PhotoImpact graphic editor. I like it a lot because it is a very professional and easy to use software that can do almost everything that can do Adobe Photoshop for a low price, just $89.99 USD. Compare with Adobe Photoshop that costs $649 USD. You can buy or download a trial version of Ulead PhotoImpact using the link PhotoImpact 12 - photo editing software But if you have already another graphic editor, of course, you can use it.
- Lenticular sheets consist of parallel lenticular plastic "optical clear" lenses. These sheets are applied on printed interlaced image and are decoded an interlaced picture for people perception as 3D, Flip or Motion picture. You can order them from "Lenticular Lenses kits" page. For 3D pictures you need the lenticular sheets with vertical running lenses. For Flip, Morph and Motion lenticular pictures you need the sheets with horizontal running lenses for small "hand holding" pictures and the sheets with vertical running lenses for big "wall mounted" pictures. Usually my "Lenticular Lenses kits" consist of 50% sheets with lenses running parallel to small and 50% sheets with lenses running parallel to big sides. But if you have some special requirement for your project, for example all 100% of sheets with lens running parallel to big side of sheet, I can arrange it for you. All lenses have an adhesive layer on the back for gluing the printed interlaced picture to lenticular sheet.
-
Cold laminator you have to use for precise gluing of printed interlaced picture and lenticular lenses
sheet. That is a one of crucial points of making high quality lenticular picture. If your printed
interlaced picture and your lenticular sheet will be applied not precisely, the quality of your picture will
be poor. That is the reason why I recommend you to use a laminator for that process. You need the
cold laminator because the heating can deform your lenticular sheet. I recommend you to look at the
laminators that I have been using for several years and I am very happy with them.

- 3M Laminating System LS1000 Width up to 12" (30 cm)
Please, pay attention to my "Lenticular Tool Kits" that were developed specially for the people who does not have any experience in doing lenticular pictures. They include:
- "PhotoProjector" interlacing software.
- Step-by-step manual "How to make high quality lenticular 3D photos and Flip pictures for home and business".
- Lenticular lens set.
Good to have:
- Book: "How to make high quality lenticular 3D photos and Flip pictures for home and business". The purpose of this book is to show a way as simple as it is possible to make high-quality lenticular pictures.
- Strong trimmer for cutting lenticular sheets. You can use Premier(R)/Martin Yale Heavy-Duty Stakcut™ Trimmer, 24", but, of course, if you would find a stronger trimmer it would be better.
-
Digital camera. You can use any camera film or digital. But digital camera is more convenient to
use with computer, because you need just upload the digital files to computer and you can start to work
with them. With film camera you have to develop the film and then scan film or prints to upload them to
computer. The main features that you have to pay attention for buying digital camera are:
- Sensor at least 5 million pixels;
- Possibility to work in Manual exposure control modes.
- Tripod add-on is a very useful device for 3D multi shooting. For 3D photography you have to take at least 6 shoots and your camera must be moved on the same step between shooting. Of course, nobody can do it if he hold the camera with hands. So, for 3D multi shooting you have to have some device that can do it for you. Fortunately you can order such device right from my web-site.

That is all that you need to make 3D, Flip, Morph and Motion lenticular pictures. I think you have already
most of these equipments. So, it will not be too difficult to start making lenticular pictures.
And now
I would like to wish you Good Luck in your new business and many Nice Lenticular Pictures!
